A 1980 University of California-Santa Barbara study found that mobile homes
suffer damage
double that of wood frame houses in high-intensity earthquakes. In
moderate-intensity
shakers, the disparity is even greater, with mobile homes
suffering damage at a rate of five
times that of their wood frame counterparts.
Much of this is due to the insecure placement of
the manufactured & mobile homes
on loose pedestals. A quarter century later, those pedestals
are still the
norm....until now.
