Alternative
Foundations was formed in 2005 by Gordon Snyder, whose invention,
the Ground Acceleration Damper, is
poised to revolutionize the foundational support for mobile and manufactured
homes, as well as other portable structures, in areas prone to earthquakes.
floods, and high wind conditions.

ABOUT THE GAD
The GAD (Ground Acceleration
Damper) was inspired by observations of the devastation caused
by the 1994
earthquake centered in Northridge, CA, which measured 6.7 on the Richter Scale.
The tremendous destruction of property wrought by the quake served to emphasize
the need for
a foundation system that could not only support manufactured and
mobile homes, but also help
to mitigate the effects of temblors and high winds
by adding a measure of “give” to a securely
anchored structure.
The GAD is designed and engineered to meet these needs, and it also meets
permanent
foundation requirements.
A typical wood frame house is securely bolted to its foundation. Manufactured
and mobile homes,
on the other hand, simply sit on pedestals or stands, making
them particularly vulnerable to
earthquakes and high winds.
